Man escapes intentionally set fire that destroyed home

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Fire Department said a man safely escaped after waking to a home on fire early Friday, May 13. Investigators said the fire has been ruled arson.
Officials said it happened on Geronimo Street, not far from Plank Road, around 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters said the front of the home was on fire when they arrived on the scene. They added the man who safely escaped told them he was asleep when he heard a noise and woke to find the house on fire. One other person who lives at the home wasn’t there when the fire started.
The home is considered a total loss.
The Red Cross was contacted to help the family.
